        <![CDATA[A new talk has been added to the schedule - An Open Source Approach to Digital Humanities<br /><br /><div><b>Abstract</b></div><div><br /></div><div>The Texas A&amp;M
University College of Liberal Arts is working to develop a "telescope
of the mind:" a digital research environment based on open standards
and a robust open source toolset to allow faculty to create extensive
and reusable digital collections capable of advancing research in
digital humanities (i.e., the academic semantic web). &nbsp;This session
covers the constraints we are working within and the open source
technologies we are applying. &nbsp;We will also touch on some of the open
source packages we are producing.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Bio</b></div><div><br /></div><div>James
Smith is the inaugural digital humanities lead developer for the
College of Liberal Art. &nbsp;As lead developer, he is spearheading
programming efforts as well as providing tutorials, workshops, and
other resources to faculty interested in digital humanities. &nbsp;James
received his B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from TAMU in 2001. &nbsp;He has
completed all but thesis for a creative writing M.A. in English. &nbsp;In
his current position, James is an active Perl module developer and can
be found most days on #moose and other venues.</div><br /> ]]>

I've listed the submission topics on the <a href="http://www.texasoss.org/schedule">schedule page</a>.  If you didn't get your talk in, or you're finding out about the symposium just now, fear not!  With the number of submissions we received, it looks like we may have some flexibility on the second day with the second room.  The idea we are looking at is to have the Theater room serve as a sort of "<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference">unconference</a>" room.
